The Presidential flagbearer of the Democratic Party, Joe Biden, has called on Americans to vote for a president that would protect the rights of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) community, just like the Obama administration.

His tweet on Sunday is coming as a reaction to President Trump’s directive on Friday, which removed (Obama’s era) health care service protection for transgender patients.

This was further disclosed in a statement issued by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).

“HHS will enforce Section 1557 by returning to the government’s interpretation of sex discrimination according to the plain meaning of the word ‘sex’ as male or female and as determined by biology,” it stated.

But Biden stressed that the recent development on LGBTQ was a step backward on equality and that another president was needed to protect their rights.

“We need a president who will fight to further LGBTQ+ equality — not roll back the hard-won progress we’ve already made,” Biden tweeted.

Trump and Biden would face off on November 3 as the two major contenders in the U.S. presidential election.
