Blair asked the unidentified woman to switch seats with her so that Blair could sit with her boyfriend. The unnamed woman’s new seatmate turned out to be former professional soccer player-turned-model Euan Holden.

Blair began to document the interactions between the woman and Holden, which seemed to grow more affectionate as time went by.

The chronicle picked up traction on social media under the hashtag #PlaneBae, but now the woman has stepped forward to say there is nothing romantic about snooping on others.

“I am a young professional woman. On July 2, I took a commercial flight from New York to Dallas,” said the woman in a statement published by Business Insider. “Without my knowledge or consent, other passengers photographed me and recorded my conversation with a seatmate.”

“They posted images and recordings to social media and speculated unfairly about my private conduct,” she continued.

The woman said the social media frenzy caused unwanted attention both online and in her day-to-day life: “Since then, my personal information has been widely distributed online. Strangers publicly discussed my private life based on the patently false information. I have been doxxed, shamed, insulted and harassed. Voyeurs have come looking for me online and in the real world.”

“I did not ask for and do not seek attention. #PlaneBae is not a romance—it is a digital-age cautionary tale about privacy, identity, ethics and consent,” she concluded. “Please continue to respect my privacy, and my desire to remain anonymous.”

Blair, to her credit, apologized following the release of the statement and expressed regret over making another woman’s story her own.
