Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps have arrested a female candidate of the 2018 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, Joy Akpabio, with a phone concealed in her pants in the Karu area of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
PUNCH Metro learnt that Akpabio was caught alongside an accomplice, Andrew Etziuzala, at the Computer-Based Centre in Baptist Academy, Karu. The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, said Akpabio hid the phone in her pants, while Etziuzala allegedly sent a text message of supposed UTME answers to her.
The two were reportedly caught after the UTME with the aid of the Closed Circuit Television Cameras which transmitted activities within the examination halls to JAMB headquarters in Bwari.
Akpabio said, “Actually, I was about bringing out the phone to make use of it when they saw me. I have sat for the UTME more than four times now and my last score was 179.”
The accomplice, Etziuala, said the answers he sent were generated by another member of the syndicate, operating from a business centre in the Jikwoyi area.
The JAMB’s Head of Information, Fabian Benjamin, said Etziuzala was caught texting the answers of 1990 JAMB examination to Akpabio. Copyright PUNCH.
