UNN Final Year Student Allegedly Commits Suicide Over Inability To Graduate

Samuel Elias, a 25-year-old final year student of the Department of Religion and Culture, University of Nigeria, Nsukka, has allegedly committed suicide by taking the popular insecticide, Sniper.

Report says that on Monday June 17th Elias took his own life inside his mother’s house in Nsukka, Enugu state.

Elias who was his mother’s first child, was depressed over his inability to graduate with his mates since 2016 as well as the attitude of his deceased father’s family members. Elias was not able to graduate with his mates in 2016 following his inability to complete his project, according to reports. This reportedly forced him into depression.

On Monday June 17th, his mother who is a staff of the University, came home to meet her son in a moody state. On close observation, she noticed his teeth had tightened up. She looked around and saw an empty container of Sniper. She immediately raised alarm and he was rushed to the Faith Foundation Hospital, Nsukka, from where he was referred to the Bishop Shanahan Hospital, Nsukka, where he eventually died.

His remains have been deposited in the morgue.

The state police command say they are investigating the circumstances surrounding his death.

This incident comes barely 5 weeks after another final year student of the school, Chukwuemeka Akachi, committed suicide.
