U.S. president, Donald Trump, is in war of words with New York Governor, Andrew Cuomo, over reopening of the state for economic activities.

Trump on Tuesday in a tweet replied Cuomo’s warning on the reopening of New York which has been hit by the coronavirus pandemic, as 195,031 thousand people have tested positive.

He said, “Cuomo has been calling daily, even hourly, begging for everything, most of which should have been the state’s responsibility, such as new hospitals, beds, ventilators, etc. I got it all done for him, and everyone else, and now he seems to want Independence! That won’t happen!”

Cuomo had warned Trump that if he opened New York, he would face a constitutional crises that he had not seen in ten years, which could lead to worse outbreak of the pandemic in the sate.

“If he says to me, ‘I declare it open,’ and that is a public health risk or it’s reckless with the welfare of the people of my state, I will oppose it.

“Then we will have a constitutional crisis like you haven’t seen in decades, where states tell the federal government, ‘We’re not going to follow your order.’ It would be terrible for this country. It would be terrible for this president,” Cuomo said.

Meanwhile, the dispute started on Monday when Trump said during a White House task force press brieffing on COVID-19, that he had the constitutional backing to make decisions affecting states in the U.S.

“When somebody is the president of the United States, the authority is total. And that’s the way it’s got to be — it’s total, the governors know that,” Trump said.

The country has recorded 587,357 cases of the virus and 44,207 recoveries, while 23,649 people have died.
