Robbers Shot CRUTECH Student To Death (Graphic Photos)
A CRUTECH student has been shot dead by suspected armed robbers in the early hours of Thursday.
A 200 level student of Cross River University of Technology (CRUTECH) Anthony Nyip Obo has been shoot dead in a robbering attack in the early hours of Thursday, March 19, 2020 at 17 Ekeya street, Ekpo Abasi, Calabar South Local Government Area of the State. Before his death, Anthony was in Civil Engineering department in the above mentioned institution.
The deceased who hail from Boki Local Government Area was attacked with his two roommates and shoot while resisting to submit possession to the two men armed robbery gang who were carrying a door to door operation.
A neighbor who asked not to be named said that the incident in the area was not the first, as day in day out the area is round search and properties taken.
“Many times we have been attacked and robbed in this street by robbers, this is not the first time, sometimes when we open our windows and doors because of the heat to read they come door to door and collect our money, phones, valuables and sometimes rap female victims,” he said.
It was also observed that the street is mostly occupied by students who most are student of CRUTECH.
Items taken away in the robbery operation were laptop, phones, money and other valuable. The street remain calm as the body was taken by security personnel.
Relatively, it was a mourning morning penultimate Tuesday Okuku in Yala Local Government Area where CRUTECH has a campus as the community was greeted by two death reports within 24 hours.
According to CrossRiverWatch, a male passenger with unknown identity travelling with two women and the vehicle driver were found dead same Tuesday morning opposite CRUTECH, Okuku Campus main gate.
It was gathered that their death was caused by brake failure and over speeding along the Okpoma – Okuku road.
According to an eye witnesses, the victims were in a vehicle conveying bags of garri to Okuku market when the brake of the car failed and suddenly the car hit a speed bump, lost balance and summersaulted trice before coming to a stop.
Earlier, the whole town experienced a serious unrest as two indigenes of Okuku were said to have a mild disagreement which metamorphosed to a fight that took the life of one by stabbing. The victim was identified by the street name of “Baron” while the alleged killer identity remains couldn’t be verified.
