Katsina villagers lynch suspected armed robbers

Three suspected armed robbers were lynched on Thursday at Salihawa village, in the Batagarawa Local Government Area of Katsina State.

The suspects had reportedly blocked a road between Barawa and Salihawa village around 8.30am.

Police sources said the robbers, during the operation, shot one Sani Lawal, a 31-year-old resident of Salihawa village.

He said, “The development made other villagers to mobilise and confront the robbers who were eventually lynched.”

It was gathered that two of the robbers died on the spot, while the third one was rescued by policemen who later arrived the scene.

He was, however, said to have died at General Kospital, Katsina, where he was admitted to for treatment.

The spokesman for the Katsina State Police Command, DSP Gambo Isah, confirmed the incident.

He said one locally-made pistol was recovered from the lynched suspected armed robbers.

Gambo said, said, “At  about 08.30am, the Divisional Police Officer, Batagarawa Division, received information that armed robbers had blocked the road between Barawa and Salihawa village, in the Batagarawa LGA and  shot one Sani Lawal of Salihawa village.

“The DPO and his team immediately swung into action and moved to the scene.  Before the arrival of the police patrol team, the villagers had already summoned courage and mobilised to the scene where three yet-to-be identified suspected armed robbers were lynched and one locally-made pistol was recovered.

“Two of the robbers died instantly while the other was rescued unconscious. Both the victim and the surviving suspect were rushed to the General Hospital, Katsina, for treatmet.

“The last suspect later died, while the victim is responding to treatment.   The men of the police Special Anti Robber Squad have been deployed in the area with a view to arresting other fleeing members of the syndicate while investigation continues.”
