FBI Lists 39 Arabs, 16 Russians, 20 Chinese & 6 Nigerians For $6m Cybercrime (Photos)
By Eyo Nse,
The 79 persons wanted by the FBI, which the agency tagged it “Cyber’s Most Wanted” are 39 men of Arab origin, 16 Russians, 20 Chinese/Asians and 6 Nigerians.
But, when this news got to Nigerians it failed to pleased them, as many took to Twitter to blast FBI for using the 6 Nigerians involved as click baits.
Below are reactions from Nigerians on Twitter:
Help the #FBI find six Nigerian nationals wanted for their involvement in business email compromise (BEC) schemes resulting in over $6 million in losses. Read more about each defendant at https://t.co/Q1OToaIVsl, and submit tips at https://t.co/iL7sD5efWD. #FugitiveFriday pic.twitter.com/67TZPHLgHA

This sensationalizing bullshit is the reason I commended Dubai Police. They captured scammers of Nigerian descent and paraded them as “international cyber criminals.” But you activated Nigerian nationality-baiting, even though there are only 6 Nigerians out of these 79 scammers.

Really @FBI? Are you also looking for the 39 men of Arab origin, 16 Russians, 20 Chinese/ Asians on that list? When you highlight 6 Nigerians in this way, you paint the remaining 200m with the same dirty brush. Please be kind to the other Nigerians who are not criminals. https://t.co/LhQHH8RTyR

I hope more Nigerians are beginning to realise that this is systemic and intentional. On this list Nigerians are just 6, with an overwhelming amount of Arabs, Russians and Chinese. But the 6 Nigerians are the poster boys. How do you discredit so many people because of just 6? https://t.co/EankZfDc43

Clicking the link and reading it all, I found out there are 79 of them. 16 Russians, 20 Chinese ,6 Nigerians and 37 men of arabic descent, but you decided to highlight Nigerians to get attention when it even had the least nationals amongst the rest. #BlackLivesMatter https://t.co/hGtpQWdQwe

In the crime market Nigerians sell news faster , so it’s understandable that the FBI would put up 6 Nigerians as front page cover . They know the Nigerian government wouldn’t interfere as opposed to other governments who would/might Query them .

Yeah just for 6 Nigerians 😒
We equally have lots of record achievements that outnumber our bad eggs' .
I'm not some crazy patriotic citizen, but I'm born Nigerian and I can't be apologetic about that. I hope we soon get over this feeling of inferiority complex. https://t.co/ghT8PbecI8

Other nationalities were among the 79 that committed the cybercrime, We have :16 Russians, 20 Chinese, 6 Nigerians and 37 men of arabic herritage.
But @FBI prefer to use Nigerians for the Cybercrime headline on their twitter handle.

Without the 6 Nigerians FBI's tweet wouldn't go viral. The handler knew this and had to do his job.

Help the #FBI find 79 criminals: 16 Russians, 20chinese, 37 men of arabic origin and 6 Nigerians.
This is how your headline should be but your racial ass must use Nigeria to catch cruise as if others on the list are less criminal. If anything those 37Arabs deserve the spotlight. https://t.co/Po3ZDyxdAq

What happened to the 20 Chinese, 16 Russians and 37 men of Arabic descent? You could not mention them. You just want to tarnish the Nigerian name more you had to use 6 Nigerians?🤦♀️. Too bad. Y'all need to fix up😤
