The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-olu has threatened to re-impose lockdown on the state if residents continue to ignore public health guidelines.

In a series of tweets on Saturday, Sanwo-olu said “We will be forced to take the painful decision of bringing the state under lockdown if it remains clear that Lagosians are determined to flout the rules..”

President Muhammadu Buhari had eased the five-week lockdown he imposed on Lagos, Ogun and Abuja to check the spread of COVID-19.

But there have been complaints of non-adherence to the guidelines particularly on social distancing, since Monday , 4 May, when residents were partially allowed to move freely.

On Tuesday, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), lamented that operators of public transportation and passengers in Lagos State have failed to comply with the state’s social distancing directives, thereby raising fears of mass community infection of Coronavirus (COVID-19) in the state.

The governor had previously said in the weeks ahead, there would be a change in the state isolation, stressing that the state may move strategy towards decentralization.
