Warri—An Ijaw pressure group, Delta Ijaw Equity Group, DIEG, has thrown its weight behind the senatorial ambition of a former Speaker of Delta State House of Assembly, Mr Kent Omatsone, saying that of the three Itsekiri aspirant to the seat, Omatsone was most acceptable to the Ijaws of Delta South senatorial district.
Co-ordinator of DIEG, Prince Augustine, made the disclosure, yesterday.
Augustine said as Ijaws from the district, they were aware that it was now the turn of the Itsekiri to produce the next senator for the position because their own son, Chief James Manager, has served four consecutive tenures and the seat is meant for the three ethnic groups of Ijaw, Itsekiri and Isoko that make up the district.
He said for the purpose of equity, fairness and justice, it was only right that the Itsekiri that has not produced a senator since the advent of the current democracy be given the opportunity to do so now but expressed surprise that there are over three Itsekiri aspirants for the position.
